WSN baseball gets area win over Monroe County Thursday

In their first area game of the season Thursday at Monroe County, the W.S. Neal baseball team got a big win over the Tigers by a score of 16-4.
With the win, W.S. Neal improved to 8-3 overall and to 1-0 in area play. The two teams were scheduled to play in a doubleheader Friday in East Brewton at 4 p.m.
In the game Thursday, W.S. Neal scored in every inning of the five-inning mercy rule game to get the win by 12.
W.S. Neal led 2-0 after the first inning, 7-0 after the second, 14-0 after the third inning and 15-0 after the top of the fourth.
Monroe County would get all four of their runs in the bottom of the inning to cut the lead to 15-4, but W.S. Neal would add one in the top of the fifth inning and hold Monroe County scoreless in the bottom to get the win by 12.
Brian Settle earned the win on the mound as he went the first three innings striking out four, waling one, and allowing one hit and no runs.
Hunter Mullins pitched one inning striking out two, walking two, surrendered two hits, and four runs with one being earned. In the final inning, Miles Powell pitched for the Eagles.
At the pate for the Eagles, Damion Williams was 3-for-4 with one RBI. Williams had a double in the fifth inning, stole two bases and scored three runs.
Reid Johnson was 3-for-3 with three RBIs including two on a double in the third inning. The final RBI came on a double in the first inning. Johnson also scored two runs in the win.
Settle was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and an RBI double in the first inning. Logan Williamson rounded out the Eagle hitters, as he was 1-for-3 with two RBIs. Williamson had a sacrifice fly in the second inning and an RBI single in the fourth.
In the JV game Thursday at Monroe County, W.S. Neal won 10-9 to improve their record to 2-3-1. W.S. Neal led 10-3 at one point in the game.
Patrick Glass started and got the win on the mound going two innings and struck out three. Colten Morris picked up the save for the Eagles.
Brandon Carmichael, Jerad Salter, and Dakota Graves each had two hits and Alex O’Keane had a two-RBI single.
In other JV games, W.S. Neal tied Northview 3-3 in the first game of a doubleheader Monday before falling in game two 4-3.
Miles Powell pitched all five innings, striking out nine and walking two. All three runs were unearned.
Malcolm Hawthorn, Mike Williams, Tyler Joyner, and Taylor Elliot had one hit each.
In game two, Rob Jones started on the mound and pitched two innings giving up one run. Glass pitched 2 1/3 innings taking the loss.
Hawthorn, Williams, Joyner, and Elliot had one hit each.
Against Excel Tuesday, the JV Eagles lost 12-2 to drop to 1-3-1.
Cameron Easterling started on the mound pitching two innings giving up two runs.
Morris and O’Keane, Glass and Elliot followed Easterling.
The Eagles had four hits from Williams, Hawthorn, Carmichael and Salter.
