JDCC baseball takes two from Bishop State

In a three-game conference series at Bishop State Saturday and Sunday in Mobile, the Jefferson Davis Community College baseball team went 2-1.
JDCC won game one 3-1 but lost game two of the series 2-1. In the rubber match of the series Sunday, JDCC won 7-2.
With the series win over Bishop, JDCC improved to 18-21 overall and 6-12 in conference play.
JDCC was scheduled to play at home Monday against Faulkner University and will return to action Thursday at home against Enterprise State in a nine-inning game. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
JDCC 3, Bishop State 1
Michael Yarborough allowed three hits, one run and struck out 12 Saturday against Bishop State as JDCC claimed a 3-1 win over the Wildcats.
Yarborough’s performance earned him the complete game win as he walked only one for JDCC.
JDCC led Bishop 2-0 after the first inning and 3-0 after the fourth. Bishop scored their lone run in the bottom of the seventh as JDCC won the game by two.
At the plate for the Warhawks, Dillan Schaniel and Mark Humphreys were both 1-for-3 and Corey Lane and Brandon Ray were 2-for-3 with one RBI each.
Bishop State 2, JDCC 1
Bishop State evened the series with the Warhawks at 1-1 as they took game two 2-1.
JDCC was held to one run in the seventh inning while Bishop scored two in the fifth to edge out JDCC by one.
On the mound for JDCC, Corey Thompson went seven innings and Tyler Howell went one.
Thompson allowed five hits, two runs, one earned, walked one and struck out three. Howell went one inning and struck out one.
Jordan Creel led JDCC at the plate with a 3-for-4 day and the lone RBI.
Nathan Edwards, Humphreys and Ray were all 1-for-4.
JDCC 7, Bishop State 2
In the third and final game, JDCC pounded out 16 hits as they took the series from Bishop with a 7-2 win.
JDCC led Bishop 4-2 after innings before plating three in the top of the ninth to get the win by five.
Edwards was 3-for-4 with two RBIs and Dustin Bickmeyer was 1-for-4 with two RBIs.
Schaniel was 3-for-5 with one RBI and Creel was also 3-for-5.
Brandon Blackwelder had two hits in the win and Humphreys and Lane had one hit each while Trae Walsingham had two. Kyle Freeman had one RBI in the win.
Jeremy Barnes and John Williams pitched for JDCC in the win. The duo went nine innings and allowed four hits, two earned runs, walked three and struck out nine.
