In their summer play-date round robin tournament Friday at the Brewton YMCA Sports Park, the T.R. Miller Lady Tigers went 3-1.
T.R. Miller started the tournament with a 16-4 win over Hillcrest and followed that with a 7-5 win over Pleasant Home. In their third game of the day, T.R. Miller lost to Robertsdale 8-6 before ending the day and the tournament with a 3-1 win over Millry.
Overall for the tournament, T.R. Miller head coach Greg White said the tournament turned out to be a very good day.
“We got a break in the weather and it was perfect for softball all day,” White said. “I thought our team did a good job overall. We went 3-1 on the day and we dressed 16 kids for the tournament and they all participated and contributed in some way throughout the day. That’s what these summer tournaments are all about. We want to put the kids in a game situation and see how they respond. We will use this as a tool and a gauge for next season’s team.”
White said his team still has a lot of things to work on, but he definitely saw more good than bad Friday.
“We are going to a team camp at Southern Miss next week and we are going to try to continue to get better as a team,” he said. “These girls are sacrificing some of their summer time with these tournament games and their weekly workouts and I appreciate the sacrifices that they are making and hopefully it will help our team out in the future. They have a lot of T.R. Miller pride in them and it shows in doing things like this.”
