The murder of Atmore businessman Kendrick Lamon Dortch Tuesday morning has been determined to be the result of a “random act of robbery” and two Atmore men have been arrested in connection to the murder, according to investigators with the Atmore Police Department.
De’Anthony Dailey, 16, and Damien Jones, 21, have been arrested in connection with the homicide and investigators said Thursday morning Dortch knew neither of his assailants.
Dortch, 38, of Atmore was found lying on the ground in the parking lot of his business at the intersection of North Second Avenue and Ridgley Street Tuesday morning dead from a single gunshot to the back.
According to the Atmore Police Department, evidence recovered by investigators led to the arrest of Dailey and Jones, with more arrests “possibly forthcoming.”
Dailey has been charged with capital murder, robbery in the first degree and two counts of burglary of a vehicle in relation to an earlier case. Jones is charged with robbery in the first degree and two counts of burglary of a vehicle, also in relation to an earlier case.
Both men were transported to the Escambia County Detention Center where they are currently being held.
