Football season is almost here

Published 4:15 pm Thursday, July 12, 2012

With all-star tournaments winding down in the area and the summer months nearing an end, it can only mean one thing: football season is almost here! Can I get an amen?!
Today—Thursday, July 12—is exactly 50 days from the start of high school football. Tomorrow—Friday, July 13—will be seven weeks until the start of the 2012 high school football season when T.R. Miller travels to Atmore to take on the Escambia County Blue Devils and W.S. Neal hosts Holtville.
And this year, just one day after the start of high school football, college football starts as Alabama travels to Dallas to open in the Cowboys stadium against Michigan and Auburn travels to Atlanta to play Clemson in the Georgia Dome. Can you smell it? It is almost here.
One week before the high school regular season kicks off, T.R. Miller will travel to Flomaton to play the Hurricanes in a preseason game. As of typing this blog, W.S. Neal does not have a preseason game scheduled but there is talks of a game at Saraland.
Both the Tigers and the Eagles have been busy doing their summer workouts and the first practice date is set for Monday, Aug. 6.
Just this past Monday, our Alabama Sports Writers Association sent out and email requesting information for our annual preseason football poll.
Before we know it, we will be busy on Friday night’s supporting our favorite team, player, band member or cheerleader.
I can’t wait…can you?!
Until we meet again here or out in the world of sports, God bless.
