Brewton BR 15s go 1-2 in state tournament at Satsuma

After ending their district tournament with some big wins over Evergreen and Atmore twice to win the district championship, the Brewton Babe Ruth 15-year-olds went 1-2 in the state tournament in Satsuma over the weekend and failed to make it out of pool play.
Brewton started the tournament Saturday with a 2-1 win over Opp. In their second game Saturday, Brewton lost to Wetumpka 13-6 in 10 innings.
Needing a win Sunday to help stay alive for the single elimination tournament games, Brewton took a 7-5 loss to the host team Satsuma to see their 2012 postseason come to an end.
Brewton 2, Opp 1
In game one Saturday against Opp, Brewton struck early and had to hold on for a one-run win.
Brewton scored one run each in the second and third innings to take a 2-0 lead and held Opp to one in the fifth to start 1-0 in the tournament.
At the plate for Brewton, Jones Manning, Tyler Joyner, Michael Williams, Dylan Etheridge and Robin Swift all had a single each.
Chris Jones had a triple and one RBI while Miles Powell had two doubles.
Joyner earned the win on the mound for Brewton. Williams and Powell also pitched in the win.
Joyner worked the first two innings and the seventh inning and allowed no runs, no hits, walked one and struck out three.
Powell went the next two innings and allowed one hit, no runs, struck out one and hit one. Williams went the fifth and sixth innings and allowed one run, four hits, walked, hit and struck out one batter.
Wetumpka 13, Brewton 6- 10 innings
In game two at state Saturday night, Brewton and Wetumpka had to go 10 innings to find a winner as Wetumpka downed Brewton by seven, 13-6.
With the game tied 6-6 after seven innings, the two teams played two scoreless frames before Wetumpka scored seven runs in the top of the 10th inning to get the win and drop Brewton to 1-1.
Wetumpka led Brewton 2-0 after the first inning and 3-0 after the top of the second before Brewton rallied with three runs of their own to tie the game.
From there, Wetumpka scored two runs in the third inning to take a 5-3 lead, but Brewton once again rallied with three runs in the bottom of the fifth to briefly take a 6-5 lead.
In the sixth, Wetumpka tied the game at 6-6 to help force extra innings after a scoreless seventh inning and won the game in the 10th inning.
At the plate, Jones Manning had three singles while Joyner had two singles. Williams and Robin Swift had a single each while Taylor Elliot had an RBI single.
Powell added one RBI while Rob Jones had two singles, Todd Mayo had a single and Keaton Parker had one RBI.
Williams took the loss on the mound in relief as he worked the 10th inning. Chris Jones, Powell, Hunter Harp and Joyner also pitched in the loss.
Satsuma 7, Brewton 5
In the third and final pool play game for Brewton Sunday against Satsuma, Brewton would play their final game of the 2012 postseason as Satsuma came away with a 7-5 win.
Both teams played to a scoreless first inning, but Satsuma would rack up two runs each in the second, third and fourth innings to take a 6-1 lead over Brewton heading into the fifth inning.
After a scoreless fifth inning for both teams, Brewton would get four runs to cut the lead to one, 6-5. From there, Satsuma added an insurance run to grab a 7-5 lead as they held Brewton scoreless in the seventh to get the win by two.
At the plate for Brewton, Manning had a single, Williams had two singles, Chris and Rob Jones had a single each, Powell had a single and a triple and two RBIs while Parker had one RBI and Swift and Mayo had a single each.
Powell, Mayo, Harp, Christ Jones and Rob Jones all pitched in the loss with Mayo being the pitcher of record.
