The case of two young mothers charged with the reckless murder of their three young children in Atmore has come to an end in an Escambia County court after almost nine months in the system.
Tekeevia Lajoseialan Abner will join her twin sister, Akeevia Lajoseia Abner, at Julia Tutwiler Prison where both women will serve 25 years sentences.
Tekeevia Abner plead guilty Thursday, July 26 to charges stemming from the children’s deaths and was sentenced the same day to 25 years in prison for each count with the sentences to be served concurrently, according to Circuit Clerk Ken Taylor.
Earlier in the month Abner’s twin sister, Akeevia, plead guilty to the same charges and received the same sentence.
Both women were arrested last November following an investigation by the Alabama Fire Marshal’s office into the blaze that killed 3-year-old Aniyia Abner, 3-year-old Takia Abner and 22-month-old Michael Coleman — who were left alone in the home at the time of the fire. The initial report from that investigation indicated the fire began after a stove was left unattended in the home.
No date has been set for Abner’s transfer to Tutwiler, but officials said the move typically occurs within 30 days of sentencing.
