Mrs. Louise H. Garrett

Louise Liles Harold was born May 27, 1916, to Juett Liles and Earl Weaver Harold. A native and life-long resident of Brewton, she married Broox Garrett, Sr. in 1941 and they enjoyed a long and happy marriage until his death in 1991. She died October 17, 2012.
Mrs. Garrett was a gifted woman. She was an avid reader from an early age and loved learning. She played the piano and enjoyed music. She preferred action over discussion and taught her children by example. She was a talented artist who produced many beautiful watercolor paintings which reflect her view and appreciation of the natural world. She was a signature member of the Alabama Watercolor Society and her work was regularly accepted in juried art competitions throughout the region where she earned numerous awards for her paintings. She was a long-time member of 1st Baptist Church and provided suport and encouragement to many organizations and individuals in Brewton including the public library, the arts council and public schools.
She is survived by three children: Lida McDowell (Roger), Linda Cone (Bill)and Broox Garrett, Jr. (Liz). She was the proud grandmother of eight and knew and enjoyed her eighteen great-grandchildren. She was an extraordinarily strong woman who cared for others throughout her life. Age did not diminish her indomitable spirit, her fierce independence, unflinching determination, and quiet faith and strength of character. She remains an inspiration to her family.
Visitation will be at Bell Chapel at the 1st Baptist Church, Brewton, Alabama, Saturday, October 20, 2012 at 9:30 a.m. Graveside services will be at Union Cemetery, Brewton, Alabama at 11:30 a.m.
