The Jefferson Davis Community College Lady Warhawk volleyball team is heading to regionals after taking down Southern Union in their final conference game of the year.
JDCC won 3-1 to improve to 10-17 overall and finish 6-8 in conference play.
JDCC won set one 25-14 and set two 25-21 before falling in the third set 26-24. In the fourth set, JDCC came away with a 25-22 win to clinch the spot in the regional tournament.
“Both our middle hitters had an amazing night,” JDCC head coach Misti Nims said. “Tara Gafford and KiKi Youngblood both set the pace and stepped up. Tara had a season high of 14 kills. She also had eight total blocks and two aces. Kiki had nine kills, five total blocks and four aces.”
Jenny Daniels had seven kills, two aces, and two blocks in the win while Tori Bracewell had four kills, two aces and three total blocks. Kayla White had 16 assists, three kills, one ace and one block. Arrisa Bray had 14 assists and one ace. Amber McMillan had 18 digs and Shelby Weidenhamer had eight digs.
“This was a big road win for us considering we have not been very successful on the road,” Nims said. “Having to take over three hour journeys on a bus and have to play is a huge factor. The girls did a great job with it and really work on certain aspects of our game to help prepare us for the region tournament. We had great team coverage and were able to get a lot of hands on the block. Currently, our team moral is up and we are playing good volleyball at the right time.
JDCC will play the No. 4 seed Sneads State at 9 a.m. Saturday morning in the regional tournament.

“Overall I think we did a great job,” Nims said. “The sophomores have been a key part to our success this year and they really stepped up tonight. This was a good warm up game for us before we start the tournament on Saturday. I am just excited though that these sophomores were able to win their last home game on their home court.”
