Cottage Hill sweeps TRM basketball

The Cottage Hill Christian Academy Warrior basketball team came to Brewton Friday night and left as winners as all three CHCA teams took down the Tigers in the area contest.
The B-team Tigers of T.R. Miller fell to 2-6 overall with a 42-26 loss while the Lady Tigers fell to 3-13 overall and to 2-3 in area play with a 37-28 defeat.
In varsity action, T.R. Miller lost 57-40 to drop to 2-11 overall and to 1-4 in area play.
T.R. Miller is scheduled to host Choctawhatchee Tuesday at home at 4:30 p.m. in a non-area game. The Lady Tigers took on Choctawhatchee in their third game of the season in the Choctawhatchee Thanksgiving Tournament. The Lady Tigers lost 56-10. The varsity Tigers did not take part in the Choctawhatchee Thanksgiving Tournament.
T.R. Miller will be back in area play Saturday at home when they host Bayside Academy. Game time is set for 4:30 p.m. with the girls starting things off followed by the varsity boys. No B-team game is scheduled to be played.
The game with Bayside is the final home game of the 2012-2013 season for the T.R. Miller basketball program. Also, the game with the Admirals is the final area game of the season for both the Lady Tigers and varsity Tigers.
T.R. Miller will end their season with a road game at Andalusia on Monday, Jan. 28 and at Hillcrest on Friday, Feb. 1. Both games are set to begin at 4:30 p.m.
Following the end of the regular season, both the T.R. Miller Lady Tigers and varsity Tigers will play in their respective area tournament games.
Game times, opponents and locations have not yet been determined.
CHCA 42, TRM B-team 26
Trailing by five—29-24—heading into the fourth quarter, the T.R. Miller B-team Tigers were outscored 13-2 in the final quarter to lose by 16 points to the Warriors.
Cottage Hill led T.R. Miller 6-4 after one quarter and 16-10 at the half following a 10-6 advantage in the second quarter.
In third quarter, T.R. Miller was able to cut into the Warrior lead by one point as they outscored Cottage Hill 14-13 to cut the lead to 29-24 heading into the fourth.
In the fourth, Cottage Hill started the quarter on a 7-0 run and ended it on a 6-0 run to come away with the 16-point win.
Markail Mitchell led the Tigers in the loss with 13 points while Joshua Jolly added five.
Carlos Thomas, Austin Holmes, Trin Miller and Marcus Paul all chipped in two points each in the loss.
T.R. Miller was 8-for-16 from the free throw line in the loss while Cottage Hill shot 2-for-3.
CHCA 37, TRM Lady Tigers 28
The Cottage Hill Christian Academy Lady Warriors used a 10-0 run over the span of the third and fourth quarters to propel them to a nine-point win over the Lady Tigers, 37-28.
CHCA also used a 7-0 run over the second and third quarters to get the win as well.
T.R. Miller led Cottage Hill 15-9 with 6:23 left before the half, but failed to score another point as the Lady Warriors ended the quarter on a 4-0 run to cut the lead to 15-13 at the break. T.R. Miller led 12-9 after the first quarter.
CHCA then started the third quarter on a 3-0 run to increase their run to 7-0 and took a 16-15 lead with 6:29 left to play in the third quarter.
Lady Tiger Lateysia Montgomery ended the run with a 3-pointer at the 6:11 mark to give T.R. Miller an 18-16 lead.
Montgomery poured in 21 points for the Lady Tigers with 12 coming in the first quarter and 15 coming in the first half.
Of Montgomery’s 21 points, all came from the 3-point area as she banked in seven on the night.
Leading by two points, T.R. Miller then fell to an 8-0 run by CHCA to trail 24-18 headed to the fourth quarter.
CHCA scored the first two points of the fourth quarter to increase their run to 10-0 and their lead to 26-18 with 7:47 left in the game.
CHCA went on to outscore the Lady Tigers 13-10 in the fourth quarter and seal the win by nine points.
Along with Montgomery’s 21 points, Emonea Curry had five points and Serena Smith had two points.
T.R. Miller went 1-for-5 from the free throw line while the Lady Warriors shot 6-for-10.
CHCA 57, TRM varsity Tigers 40
Just like in the girls game prior, the CHCA varsity Warriors used a run in the second and third quarters to help themselves to a 57-40 win over the T.R. Miller varsity Tigers.
Trailing 15-5 after one quarter, T.R. Miller used an 8-0 run to cut the Cottage Hill lead to 20-15 with 2:45 left before the half.
From there, it was all Cottage Hill as the Warriors went on a 12-1 run to end the half with a 32-16 lead.
In the second half Cottage Hill used a 10-0 run to start the third quarter and take a 42-16 lead with 4:36 left in the quarter.
Cottage Hill went on to lead the Tigers 52-21 heading into the fourth quarter.
In the fourth, T.R. Miller used a 10-0 run and outscored the Warriors 19-5, but it was too little too late as CHCA picked up the win by 17 points.
Chardian Johnson led the Tigers with 20 points and Caden Lodge added seven points. Caleb Hubbard finished with six points in the loss while Trae Walker added three points. Marquiese Thomas and Terry Samuel both chipped in two points in the loss.
The Tigers were 8-for-21 from the free throw line while CHCA was 10-for-21.
