CVCC sends JDCC basketball to 13th loss

In a back-and-forth game that saw six different lead changes, the Jefferson Davis Community College Warhawk basketball team suffered a 13-point loss to Chattahoochee Valley Tuesday night at home 84-71.
The Warhawks trailed 39-37 at the halftime break and were outscored 45-34 in the second half to take the loss.
JDCC trailed by as many as five in the first 1:25 of the first half but used an 11-0 run to take a 13-7 lead with 15:18 left in the half.
The Warhawks would see their lead vanish as CVCC went on an 8-0 run to lead by as many as six points, 24-18, with 10:19 left in the half. JDCC would once again lead by as many as four points, 30-26, with 6:09 left in the first half, but was outscored 13-7 down the stretch to trail by two points at the half.
In the second half, after trailing by three points early, JDCC led by as many as five points at the 15:13 mark—51-46— and held a 56-53 lead with 12:00 left in the game.
From that point on, CVCC used two 7-0 runs to outscore JDCC 31-15 the rest of the game to get the win by 13 points.
“Offensive rebounds and missed free throws were the difference in the game,” JDCC head coach Allen Gainer said. “None of that matters if we can rebound and make our free throws.”
JDCC shot 13-for-24 from the free throw line in the loss while CVCC were 12-for-19.
The Warhawks were 1-for-2 from the line in the first half, but were 12-for-22 in the second half.
CVCC shot 12-for-19 from the line in the game. CVCC was 2-for-4 from the line in the first half and were 10-for-15 in the second.
Anthony Bell and Dee Jay Braggs both led the Warhawks with 13 points each while Fletcher Forte and Corderrio Hasewood both followed with 11 points each.
Chris Oden chipped in seven points and Adrian Rich and Kenny Nabors both finished with six points each in the loss. Matthew Bass and Devonte Pope both had two points each.
Oden, Rich and Hasewood both had four rebounds each in the loss to lead the Warhawks. Oden led with five assists and Rich led with two blocks. Oden led with five steals.
JDCC had 27 total rebounds in the loss with eight coming on offense and 19 on defense.
CVCC’s stats were not available as of press time.
The Warhawks of JDCC fell to 1-13 overall with the loss to Chattahoochee Valley and fell to 1-3 in conference play. It was the third straight overall loss and conference loss for the Warhawks after their first win of the season over Alabama Southern.
JDCC was scheduled to be back in action Thursday at Enterprise State at 7 p.m.
The Warhawks will return back to action at home on Monday, Jan. 28 when they host Bishop State. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
