JDCC softball splits

After seeing their losing streak hit seven straight losses in game one Saturday against Bishop State, the Jefferson Davis Community College Lady Warhawk softball team ended their streak in exciting fashion in game two.
In game one, JDCC lost to Bishop State 10-4 but rallied in game two to come away with a 7-5 win and improve to 10-25 overall and to 2-2 in conference play.
In game one, JDCC trailed Bishop State 10-1 after six innings before eventually falling by six, 10-4.
Jennifer Fisher had a double in the loss and Paige Odom had two doubles.
Morgan Agerton, Sarah Beth Watkins and Breanna Hall also had hits in the loss.
Agerton, Fisher, Odom and Watkins had one RBI each.
Hall took the loss in the circle for JDCC as she went seven innings and allowed 16 hits, 10 runs, eight earned, walked two and struck out five.
In game two, JDCC led Bishop State 5-4 heading into the seventh inning but gave up one run in the inning to head to the seventh tied at 5-all.
From there—with two outs and two strikes in the bottom of the seventh—Kayla Watson hit a two-run walk off homerun to win the game for the Lady Warhawks.
Watson went 2-for-3 in the win with two RBIs.
Also having a hot bat in the win was Keira Dawsey. Dawsey hit two homeruns and had three RBIs.
Fisher had two hits along with Courtney Lowery. Laura Zeegers and Hall both had one hit each. Fisher had one RBI to help aid in the win.
Jessica Swindle was the pitcher of record. She went seven innings and earned the win and allowed seven hits, five runs, four earned, walked and struck out nine.
JDCC will host Faulkner State Thursday at home for a conference game. Game time is set for 1 and 3 p.m. at Lady Warhawk field on the campus of Jefferson Davis Community College.
