JDCC baseball gets win over Alabama Southern Saturday

Four runs in the top of the ninth inning for the Jefferson Davis Community College Warhawk baseball team paved the win for a 5-3 rally and conference win Saturday against Alabama Southern.
Down 3-1 after eight innings, JDCC scored four runs in the top of the ninth and held Alabama Southern scoreless in the bottom of the inning to get the two-run win and improve to 16-25 overall and to 8-17 in conference play.
In a doubleheader Sunday in Monroeville, JDCC lost 5-1 in the second game of the series and lost the rubber game 4-1 to drop the series to the Eagles and fall to 16-27 overall and to 8-19 in conference play. No stats were known as of press time of Sunday’s games.
In the win Saturday, JDCC fell behind 1-0 in the first inning but tied the game at 1-all in the second. Alabama Southern added one run in the fourth inning and eighth inning before falling to JDCC’s four runs in the ninth.
At the plate for JDCC, Wes Dickey went 1-for-1 with a double and Logan Hill was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a double. Alex Jones went 1-for-5 with a single and Kyle Freeman was 2-for-4. Brandon Ray went 2-for-5 with one RBI and Michael Fox was 1-for-4 and Trae Walsingham had one RBI.
Mitchell Peterson earned the win on the mound and Tyler Howell took the save.
John Williams, Tyler Henry and Joey Scapecchi also pitched in the win.
JDCC’s five pitchers allowed four hits, three runs, none earned, walked eight and struck out nine in nine innings of work.
JDCC will be back in action Thursday at home as they host Wallace-Dothan. Game time is set for 2 p.m. and will be a nine-inning game.
