Kandace Kelly McDaniel

Mrs. Kandace Kelly McDaniel died April 23, 2013 at her resident in Brewton. She was a lifelong resident of Brewton, and attended T.R. Miller High School. She earned a bachelor’s degree in education from the University of West Florida, followed by a master’s degree in education from the University of Alabama.
A licensed psychometrist, she taught special education and learning disability classes at Brewton Elementary School. In addition to teaching, she led a team of specialists in the tri-county area schools setting up special education and learning disability programs, and was instrumental in lobbying for special education funding.
She was involved in many community activities. She volunteered with the Red Cross, and was a member of the Arts Council and the Volunteers of America. She was Chairman of the Escambia County Healthcare Authority board and served on the Escambia County, Alabama Community Hospitals, Inc board. In addition, she served on the YMCA board and the Jefferson Davis Community College Foundation board. She was also named the Brewton Woman of the Year in 1985. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Brewton, and served on many church committees. She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert Edward Kelly Sr. and Helen Roberts Kelly; and her brother Albert Edward Kelly Jr.
She is survived by her husband Charles McDaniel; her daughters Lauren (Eric) Luczkow of Roswell Ga., and Brett (Kevin) Kirkendall of Mobile; her brothers Jerry (Naomi) Kelly and Samuel (Peggy) Kelly; her grandchildren Alexander Luczkow and Edward Luczkow of Roswell, Coley Krieg, Blaze Kirkendall, Preston Kirkendall, Brewer Kirkendall, and Sarah Grace Kirkendall, all of Mobile; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members.
A memorial service was held at First United Methodist Church of Brewton at 4 p.m on Friday, April 26. A reception was held in the Fellowship Hall following the service.
