Grady Earl Carden

Mr. Grady Earl Carden, 89, of Tractor Trail Road, died Saturday, May 4, 2013 at his residence after a brief illness.
He was a native of Phil Campbell, and a former resident of Brewton and Pollard before moving to Jay more than six years ago. Upon graduation, he entered the United States Navy and served for two years. He then attended Larkins Business School in Brewton and received his accounting degree. He went to work at St. Regis Paper Company for two years before transferring to Container Corporation in 1952. He retired from Container in 1983, started Carden Straw Company in 1984 and retired in 2005. He was a member of the Berrydale Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Lillie Ruth Reaves Carden; his wife of seven years, Margaret Huey Carden; and a daughter, Debbie Carden.
He is survived by his daughter, Toni Grissett of Brewton; his stepdaughters; Beverly Fields of Pace, Fla., and Patsy (Mike) Scott of Jay; his sisters; Myrtle Campbell of Pace, Roberta Black of Flomaton, Marie Sprinkle of Saraland, three grandchildren, Candace (Jeff) Lee, Tyler (Rebecca) Grissett, and Skyler Grissett; three great-grandchildren, Breanna, Chloe and Jeffrey Lee, five step-granddaughters; and nine step great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 8, at 2 p.m. at the chapel of Craver’s Funeral Home Inc., with the Rev. Robert Gandy officiating. Burial will follow in Pollard Cemetery with Craver’s Funeral Home directing.
Active pallbearers will be Tommy Hall, Leo James, Shane Buckey, Lewie T. Smith, Jack Floyd and Ralph Hayes. Honorary pallbearers will be Durwood Williamson, Glen McCurdy, Doug McCurdy, Eugene McCurdy, Robert Carden, and Anthony Black.
