Mrs. Josephine Hixon Gillis, 88, died Saturday, May 11, 2013 at a senior facility in Birmingham. She was an active member of First Baptist Church of Brewton and a talented artist. She was preceded in death by her parents, Laura and George Hixon; her husband of 70 years, Luther J. Gillis; her brothers, Harold Hixon and Anford Hixon; and a daughter-in-law, Diann Fleming Gillis.

She is survived by her sons, Wayne (Karen Loerch) of Birmingham, Terry (Katie Franklin) of Fort Payne, and Greg (Elaine Fulford) of Milton, Fla.; her grandchildren, Joy Gillis (Chad) Cummings, Katie Gillis (Jeff) LaMaster, Matthew Gillis, Rachel Gillis (Paul) Lomoriello, and Andrew Gillis; her great-grandchildren, Samantha Cummings, Alyssa Cummings, Price LaMaster, Lacy LaMaster, and Luke Lomoriello; her sisters, Elizabeth Hicks, Sallie Thomasson, Georgette Hart, and Marguerite Kelly.

Visitation will be held Thursday May 16, from 10 until 11 a.m. at Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held Thursday May 16, at 11 a,m. at Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Jack Fitts officiating. Burial will follow in Union Cemetery with Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Brewton, Alabama directing.
