Gilbert Francis Watson

Mr. Gilbert Francis Watson, 91, of Florida Street in East Brewton, died Tuesday, July 16, 2013 in a local hospital after brief illness. He was a native and life long resident of Escambia County and was a member of the East Brewton First United Methodist Church, He was a 1939 Graduate of W.S. Neal High School; a U.S. Coast Gaurd veteran having served during WWII, and former owner/operator of Watson Shoe Shop and Watson Western Wear for more than 60 years.
He is survived by his wife, Bennette Teal Watson of East Brewton; one daughter, Gilda Watson Wilkerson of Birmingham; one brother, Harvey L. Watson of East Brewton; and one granddaughter, Emily Gilbert Wilkerson (Jeff) Meyer.
Visitation will be held Friday, July 29 from 1 to 2 p.m. at the East Brewton First United Methodist Church on Forrest Avenue.
Funeral services will follow visitation at 2 p.m. at the East Brewton First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jean Spikes and the Rev. Steve McCoy officiating. Burial will follow in Fort Crawford Cemetery with Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
