The driver of a truck that overturned Monday and killed a local teenager and injured at least three other children was released from the hospital and went straight to jail Tuesday, authorities said.

Earl Dickerson, 33, of East Brewton, was booked on an open count of murder in connection with the Monday evening crash that claimed the life of 13-year-old Nicholas Robinson.

Officials have said it is believed that at least two of the four children were riding in the bed of the 2002 Silverado pick-up truck being driven by Dickerson at the time of the crash on County Road 55 (Travis Road) Monday evening.

The truck left the road, struck a utility pole and overturned, according to state troopers.

Dickerson is also facing three counts of assault in connection with the injuries sustained by the other children involved in the crash.

Witnesses say only one of the other children was critically injured in the crash.

Robinson’s sister, Sierra, was reportedly injured in the crash but is recovering. The identity of the third child has not been released.

Another child, Anasia Brazile, 11, is reportedly in critical condition at Sacred Heart in Pensacola, where she was LifeFlighted to Monday night.
