Mr. Daniel Scott Nelson, 30, died Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2013 in Pensacola, Fla.

He was a native of Ft. Hood, Texas, a former resident of Brewton for 15 years and resided in Bratt for the past 15 years. He was a student at Atmore campus of Jefferson Davis Community College. He was preceded in death by his father, Morris Scott Nelson; a brother, LCpl Travis Nelson and his grandfathers, Morris W. Nelson and Thomas A. Updike.

He is survived by his mother, Linda Updike (Bubba) McGhee of Brewton; his stepmother, Beckie Sanspree Nelson of Bratt; his wife, Melissa Royster Nelson of Bratt; one son, Quinton Scott Nelson of Bay Minette; two daughters, Amber Leigh Whitehurst and Caitlin Marie Nelson, both of Bratt; four sisters, Jenna Nelson (Kevin) McCall, Sharelyn I. McGhee and Shaylee D. Cash, all of Brewton, and Anna Louise Nelson of Bratt; his grandmothers, Martha Nell Updike and Louise Nelson of Brewton; and two nephews, Aydin and Jaxon Nelson of Brewton.

Funeral services were held Sunday, August 25, at 2 p.m. at the Petty- Eastside Chapel Funeral Home in Atmore, with the Rev. Jeff Dwinger officiating.

Burial followed at Green Acres Cemetery with Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home directing.

Pallbearers were Earl Self, Michael Updike, Steven Updike, Chase Updike, Will Taylor and Chad Stacey. Honorary pallbearers were Dawson Chavers, Brandon Nelson and Heath Bryan.
