Mrs. Sue Burnham Downing, 74, of Old Hwy 31, died Saturday, August 31, 2013 at a local hospital after a brief illness. She was native and life long resident of Escambia County. She was of the Baptist Faith, a 1957 graduate of W.S. Neal High School, and retired from the Brewton Public Library with 20 years of service. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wiley William Downing III, and a brother, Jerry Burnham.
She is survived by her son, Wiley W. Dowing of Excel; a daughter, Lisa (Fred) Nordmeyer of Brewton; two brothers, Mike (Barbara) Burnham of Opelika, and Jamie (Joyce) Burnham of Stockton; a sister, Sarah (Gene) Frazier of Brewton; five grandchildren, Courtney Downing, Jernigan Nordmeyer, Sawyer Helton, Philip Nordmeyer II, and Gaines Downing; her honorary grandchildren, Emily Minton, Melissa Cochran, and Michael Potter. her brothers-In-law, John(Mae) Downing and Dan Downing; a sister-In-law, Anne Downing; and many nieces, nephews, other family members, and friends
Graveside services will be held Wednesday, September 4, at 10 a.m. at Zion Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Rusty Burnham and Father Adrian Cook officiating. and Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing.
