Willis M. Goolsby

Mr. Willis M. Goolsby, of Auburn, died Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2013, at his residence after a battle with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis.
Mr. Goolsby was born in Damascus, Ala., and later went to Auburn to attend Alabama Polytechnic Institute in 1956. He earned a bachelor’s degree in engineering and education. He later then helped manage Goolsby’s Boarding House, owned by his brother Willis Goolsby. He also taught math and related subjects at high schools in Columbus, Ga., and in the two-year college system in Montgomery. He served as dean of students for many years before retiring from a 33 year career in Education in June of 1995.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Patricia Jane Goolsby; his parents, grandparents, five brothers, and one sister.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Doris Jean White Goolsby; daughters, Marian (Jim) Pappanastos, Willisia (Matthew) Vail; three grandsons, Lucas Alan, Justin Willis, and Joshua Kaeden Vail; as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Saturday, Nov. 2, 2013 from 1 until 2.30 p.m. in the sanctuary at Auburn Church of Christ.
Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 2, 2013 at 2:30 p.m. at Auburn Church of Christ with Minister Tom Steed officiating. Interment will follow at Auburn Memorial Park Cemetery.
