The Archdiocese of Mobile and United Methodist Committee on Relief are working to collect donations to help those affected by the typhoon in the Philippines.
St. Maurice Catholic Church in Brewton will have a special collection at Masses this weekend for the relief effort, along with other churches in the diocese.
“The Archdiocese of Mobile has a close connection with the Philippines and is blessed by the ministry of priests who were born in the Philippines and by the presence of the Filipino Catholic community in our archdiocese,” Bishop Thomas Rodi said in a statement.
Brewton’s First United Methodist Church also let church members know about the relief effort through UMCOR, which provided a $97,000 emergency grant almost immediately after the storm hit.
