Mrs. Lucy Raye Smith, 77, died Monday, Nov. 4, 2013, after an extended illness.
Mrs. Smith was a member of Second Saint Siloam Missionary Baptist Church. She served her church and community faithfully as a Deaconess, member of the Usher Board #2, member of the Senior Choir, and Lily Chapter #592 order of Eastern Star.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Oscar and Cora Nettles; one sister, Margaret Thomas; one brother Dan Nettles; two sons, Kenneth and Barry Andrews.
She is survived by her husband of 41 years, Samuel David smith, Sr.; three sons, Willie Nettles of Athens, Ala., Larry Andrews of Milton, Fla. and Samuel (Sonja) Smith, II of Leadsville, La.; six daughters, Valerie Andrews of Atlanta, Ga., Krystal (Gerald) Mack of Douglasville, Ga., Juanitta Smith of Brewton, Minnie (Tor) Reid of Dallas, Ga., Glennie Smith of Marietta, Ga. and Shonda (Chris) Tolbert of Brewton; four sisters, Margaret Clark, Paula Barlow, both of Jersey City, N.J., Lois Ausby of Daniville, Va., Arlene (David) Harris of Cincinnati, Ohio; one brother, Henry nettles of Leeds, Ala.; 13 grandchildren, Marcus Andrews, Synenthia Crosby, ChaKristie Andrews, Devron Chevalier, Juanitta Smith, Ahmad Gray, Eboni Jones, Adia Reid, Zietta Smith, Imani Reid, Gerrelle Mack, Jermiah Williams and Micah Williams; two great-grandchildren, Amethyst Andrews and Santavia Andrews; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
Services were held on Nov. 9, 2013 at 11 a.m. at Second Saint Siloam Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Willie J. Blue officiating. Interment followed at Baptist Hill Cemetery with Christian Memorial Funeral Home directing.
