Hillcrest sweeps TRM Friday night

It was a clean sweep for the Hillcrest Jaguars over T.R. Miller’s basketball teams Friday night in Brewton.
In B-team action, T.R. Miller lost 38-25 to see their record fall to 6-7 this season. In the girls game Friday, Hillcrest rallied past the Lady Tigers to get a 34-33 win and drop T.R. Miller to 4-16 overall this season.
In the varsity game Friday night, the Jaguars claimed a 42-30 win over the Tigers. With the 12-point loss, T.R. Miller’s overall record fell to 5-13 this season.

Hillcrest 38, TRM B-team 25
The Hillcrest Jaguars B-team captured a 38-25 win over T.R. Miller Friday night in Brewton.
Joshua Jolly and Ahmaud Taylor led the way for the Tigers in the loss with eight points each. Austin Holmes added five points and Hayden Atkinson chipped in four points in the loss.
The two teams played to a 4-all tie after one quarter of play before the Jaguars used a 7-0 run to start the second quarter. With the 7-0 run, Hillcrest build an 11-4 lead and outscored T.R. Miller 13-5 in the quarter to take a 17-9 lead at the halftime break.
In the third quarter, Hillcrest edged out T.R. Miller 9-7 to increase their lead to 26-16 heading into the final quarter of play.
In the fourth, Hillcrest ended the game on a 12-9 run to seal the win by 13 points.
The Tigers shot 9-for-16 from the free throw line in the loss while Hillcrest was 6-for-14.

Hillcrest 34, TRM Lady Tigers 33
With their sights set on their fifth win of the season and eying an upset of the Hillcrest Lady Jags Friday night at home, T.R. Miller’s Lady Tigers saw a late lead evaporate as Hillcrest rallied to come away with a 34-33 win.
Down 22-21 after three quarters of play, T.R. Miller held a 30-28 lead over Hillcrest with 4:17 left in the game.
From there, Hillcrest outscored T.R. Miller 6-3 down the stretch to claim the one-point win.
The two teams played to a 6-all tie after one quarter of play. In the second quarter, both teams struggled on offense as Hillcrest edged out the Lady Tigers 3-1 in the quarter to hold a 9-7 lead at the half.
In the third quarter, with Hillcrest leading 11-7 at the 7:51 mark, the Lady Tigers used a 9-0 run to grab a 16-11 lead with 4:20 left in the quarter.
Hillcrest would then return the favor in the quarter with a 6-0 run of their own to claim a 17-11 lead at the 3:30 mark in the quarter. Despite T.R. Miller outscoring Hillcrest 14-13 in the quarter, the Lady Jaguars held a 22-21 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
In the fourth, the Lady Tigers saw a late lead disappear as Hillcrest turned a 32-all tie with 2:09 left in the game to a 34-32 lead with 47.1 seconds left.
T.R. Miller would cut Hillcrest’s lead to 34-33 with 23.8 seconds left and had their chance to win the game after a missed Hillcrest free throw with 7.6 seconds left.
After getting a good look at a 3-pointer, T.R. Miller’s shot missed and another Lady Tiger shot failed after a rebound as Hillcrest claimed the win.
Mekiah Williams led T.R. Miller in the loss with 23 points. Morgan Longmire added nine points and Star Drakeford added one in the loss.
The Lady Tigers were 12-for-24 from the free throw line in the loss while Hillcrest was 6-for-14.

Hillcrest 42, TRM varsity 30
After rallying from a 12-point deficit to cut Hillcrest’s lead to two points, T.R. Miller fell to an 11-0 run of Hillcrest’s to help propel the Jaguars to a 42-30 win over the Tigers.
In the game Friday, Hillcrest used a 10-0 run in the quarter to turn a 4-3 advantage for T.R. Miller into a 13-4 Jaguar lead.
In the second quarter, Hillcrest built a 20-8 lead with 5:03 left in the half only to see T.R. Miller end the quarter on a 6-0 run to cut Hillcrest’s lead to 20-14 at the half.
In the third quarter, T.R. Miller continued on their run and increased it to a 10-0 run to trail 20-18 with 7:10 left in the third quarter.
With their lead cut to two points, Hillcrest then went on an 11-0 run of their own to build a 31-18 lead with 1:59 left in the quarter. The Jaguars would go on and outscore the Tigers 13-6 in the quarter to hold a 33-20 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
In the fourth, despite T.R. Miller holding a 10-9 scoring advantage in the quarter, Hillcrest went on to win the game by 12 points.
The Tigers shot 4-for-9 from the free throw line in the loss while Hillcrest was 8-for-14.
Leading the way for the Tigers was Chardian Johnson with eight points. Dominique Jackson added six points while Trae Walker added five. Caden Lodge chipped in four points while Shawn Tolbert had three. Jalen Jones and Tamerick Jenkins both had two points each in the loss.
