Brewton Advanced BR: Dawgs fall in championship game

Playing in a tournament Saturday and Sunday in Brewton at T.R. Miller, the Brewton Advanced Babe Ruth Dawgs went 3-1 and finished as tournament runner-up. Overall, Brewton is now 5-1.
In tournament games Saturday, the Dawgs of Brewton took down Rivals of Pensacola 5-3 and the Pensacola Seamdogs 5-2.
On Sunday, Brewton defeated Mobile 9-1 to move to 3-0 in the tournament. The win over Mobile put Brewton in the championship game against the Pensacola Seamdogs. In the rematch with the Seamdogs, Brewton took an 11-3 loss to drop their first and lone game of the two-day tournament.
Dawgs 5, Rivals of Pensacola 3
Dalton Simmons and Dalton Shell combined to give up only six hits in Brewton’s 5-3 victory over the Rivals of Pensacola.
Shell entered the game with the bases loaded and one out in the fourth and promptly induced a 1-2-3 double play to get out of the inning.
Caden Lodge and Mike Williams each had two hits for the Dawgs, with Williams collecting the only extra base hit in the game with a double. Tyler Joyner, Damion Williams, Chris Jones and Rob Jones all contributed singles.
Dawgs 5, Pensacola Seamdogs 2
Darby Black, Joyner and Lodge combined to give up only four hits in a 5-2 victory over the Seamdogs of Pensacola.
Black and Joyner went two innings each with Lodge going the last before the time limit expired.
Chris Jones tripled and scored two runs while Joyner, Dylan Godwin, Sam Frazier, and Simmons chipped in, all with singles.
Dawgs 9, Mobile 1
Black went four strong innings and allowed only three hits and one run and Simmons pitched the fifth inning as the game ended after five innings due to the run rule.
Lodge and Derrick Barton led the way as they picked up three and two hits respectively, with Barton knocking a double and triple.
Black also chipped in with two singles while Godwin, Chris Jones, Rob Jones, and Simmons collected one each.
Pensacola Seamdogs 11, Dawgs 3 (Championship Game)
In the championship game Sunday, the Seamdogs of Pensacola jumped on the Dawgs early as they scored four runs on five hits in the first inning to help aid them in them eight-run win.
Pensacola would tack on another three more runs in the third inning, with the big shot being a two-run homer from the visitors.
The Dawgs finally got on the board in the fifth inning with the aid of two walks and two hits, the big one coming off the bat of Shell with the bases loaded, to cut the lead to 7-2. The home team would tack on another run in the sixth inning after a double by Godwin, a stolen base, and a sacrifice fly off the bat of Barton.
That was the end of the scoring for the Dawgs while the Seamdogs tacked on another four in the top of the seventh to make the final score 11-3.
Godwin led the way with two hits, including a double, while Shell, Dakota Graves, Chris Jones, and Lodge chipped in with a single each.
Tyler Joyner took the loss for the Dawgs.
