Opp’s 12U wins tourney in East Brewton

The Opp Bobcats 12U Cal Ripken baseball team captured the district championship Monday in East Brewton with a 16-1 win over Evergreen.
Opp went 3-0 in tourney play while Evergreen went 3-2 and finished as runner-up.
Brewton finished in third place with a 1-2 record while East Brewton took fourth place with a 1-2 record as well.
Covington County went 1-2 and Andalusia went 1-2.
Opp outscored their opponent 40-2 in the their three games.
Friday: CC 11, Evergreen 5
Covington County scored five runs in the first inning to propel them to a six-run win over Evergreen in their first game of the tournament Friday.
After scoring five runs in the first inning, CC added three in the second, one in the third and two in the fifth while holding Evergreen to two in the fourth and three in the second.
For CC, Ayden Amis and Tucker Livings pitched in the win. At the plate, Judd Fuqua, Dale Coleman, Chandler Mitchel, Amis, Livings, Caleb Meredith, Gabrien Dunn, Adam Anderson and Brady Hamric all had hits.
Friday: Andalusia 8, EB 5
Andalusia scored six runs in the second inning to edge out East Brewton 8-5 Friday.
Along with the six runs in the second inning, Andalusia scored one each in the first and fourth innings.
East Brewton scored one run each in the first, second, third, fifth and sixth innings.
For East Brewton, Sawyer Lewis had a double and two singles and Samuel Bosarge had three singles. Jennings Hobbs had two singles while Paxton Scurlock had a triple. Caden Nowling added a single along with Caleb Sexton.
Dylan Ingram and Sammy Wright pitched in the loss for East Brewton.
For Andalusia, Chase Harper and Jacob Cravey pitched in the win.
At the plate for Andalusia, Dawson Kennedy had a single along with Reese Burkhardt.
Cravey had a double and a single while Michael Jordan had a double. Harper finished with a single in the win.
Saturday: Brewton 5,
Andalusia 0
In their first game of the 12U Cal Ripken baseball tournament Saturday in East Brewton, Brewton’s all-stars defeated Andalusia 5-0 behind the no-hit pitching of Landon Sims.
Neither team scored through the first four innings before Brewton plated two in the fifth inning and three in the sixth inning.
Sims went the complete game six innings and allowed no runs, no hits, walked one and struck out eight in the win.
Logan Bush, Whitley Lisenby, Wyn Brittain and Will Reed all had hits or Brewton in the win. Brittain had two RBIs.
Noah Gooden and Cravey pitched in the loss for Andalusia.
Saturday: Opp 13, CC 0
Opp’s Taylor Duffell, Trey Spurlin and Lance Ballard combined to pitch a no-hitter to lead Opp to a 13-0 win over Covington County Saturday.
The trio struck out 14 in the win.
For Opp at the plate, Logan Ross had two singles and a double while Hal Smithart had a double and a single. Clay Ashberry finished with a single and Taylor Duffell had a double. Trey Spurlin had three singles and a homerun, Thomas Wilson had a single, Brady James had a single and a double, Blayne Moore had two singles and Wyatt Horn had a single.
Brendon Douglas, Caleb Meredith and Adam Anderson all pitched for CC in the loss.
Saturday: Evergreen 5,
Andalusia 4
In a loser’s bracket game Saturday, Evergreen edged out Andalusia 5-4.
Evergreen led Andalusia 1-0 after one inning and 4-1 after three innings. After Evergreen took a 5-1 lead in the fourth inning, Andalusia added one in the fifth and two more in the sixth to cut the lead to 5-4, but took the loss by one to be eliminated.
Jacoby Bryant and Brady Gorum took the pitching loss on the mound for Andalusia.
For Andalusia at the plate, Brandon Langley had a single and a double while Reese Burkhardt had a double and a single. Michael Jordan had a single along with Dawson Kennedy.
Saturday: EB 8, CC 4
With elimination facing both teams, East Brewton doubled up Covington County 8-4 to eliminate CC.
Jennings Hobbs pitched EB to the win as he went the complete game and allowed eight hits, walked one and struck out five.
Adam Anderson and Chandler Mitchell took the pitching loss on the mound for Andalusia. The duo allowed seven hits, walked two, hit one batter and struck out three.
Sawyer Lewis, Samuel Bosarge, Caden Nowling, Dylan Ingram, and Sammy Wright all had hits for EB.
For Andalusia, Judd Fuqua, Dale Coleman, Tucker Livings, Gabriel Dunn, Hade Green, Chandler Mitchell, and Brenden Douglas all had hits in the loss.
Sunday: Opp 11, Brewton 1
Opp continued their tournament dominance as they took down Brewton 11-1 in the winner’s bracket.
Opp scored two runs in the first inning, one in the second and four each in the third and fourth innings while holding Brewton to one run in the first inning.
Logan Bush and Drew Reed pitched in the loss for Brewton while Trey Spurlin and Clay Ashberry pitched in the win for Opp.
Stone Martin had the lone hit for Brewton in the first inning.
For Opp, Lane Ballard, Logan Ross, Hal Smithardt, Spurlin, Jesse Coon, Brady James, and Peyton Ellis all had hits. Coon had a double and a grandslam homerun in the fourth inning.
Sunday: Evergreen 2, EB 0
Evergreen shutout East Brewton 2-0 Sunday to eliminate the tourney host. Evergreen scored one run in the second inning and one in the fourth to get the win.
Dylan Ingram pitched in the loss for East Brewton.
At the plate for EB, Jacob Bondurant had the lone hit.
Sunday:
Evergreen 8, Brewton 2
After taking down East Brewton earlier in the day, Evergreen continued their run in the loser’s bracket with an 8-2 win over Brewton. The loss eliminated Brewton.
Evergreen held Brewton to one run each in the second and sixth innings while getting two of their own in the first, one in the second, two more in the third, and one each in the final three innings to get the six-run win.
Stone Martin took the pitching loss on the mound for Brewton. Evergreen had three homeruns in the win.
For Brewton at the plate, Logan Bush, Earl Dolihite, Martin, Landon Sims, and Wyn Brittain all had hits.
Monday championship game:
Opp 16, Evergreen 1
An 11-run first inning for Opp paved the way for an easy championship win over Evergreen Monday as the Bobcats cruised to a 16-1 win.
Along with 11 runs in the first inning, Opp added one in the second, three in the third and one more in the fourth while holding Evergreen to one lone run in the first inning.
Clay Ashberry and Logan Ross pitched in the win for Opp and allowed three hits and struck out nine.
For the Bobcats at the plate, Lane Ballard, Logan Ross, Hal Smithhardt, Ashberry, Taylor Duffell, Trey Spurlin, Jesse Coon, Wyatt Horn and Blayne Moore all had hits.
Coon had a homerun in the first inning.
Overall, Opp had 19 hits in the win.
