The former T.R. Miller band director jailed on a multitude of sex charges is still behind bars.
Chief Deputy Mike Lambert of the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office said Tuesday that 32-year-old Jeffrey Lance Gainous remains in the county detention center under a $750,000 bond.
Under Alabama law, one must own property in the state equal to the bond amount in order to sign a property bond or put up 10 percent of the total bond in cash.
“That would mean it would take $75,000 to get him out,” Lambert said.
Gainous, or “Mr. G.” as he was known to students, is accused of having sexting conversations with at least six victims, as well as well as tying up at least two teenage girls and gagging them using ropes and other bondage devices during sex. Incidents reportedly occurred inside the school band room and at Gainous’ former home in Brewton.
Gainous left TRM after six years to head the band program at Thomas County, Ga., Central High School in June. He was terminated from the system upon his arrest.
As part of his bond conditions, Gainous is allowed to return to his parents’ home in Cairo, Ga. He is to have no contact with his victims or minor children other than his two own.
Gainous’ attorney, J. Clark Stankausky of Fairhope, said the man’s parents planned to post bond for their son.
A preliminary hearing is set for Sept. 11 at 2 p.m.
