It may have taken five sets, but the Jefferson Davis Community College Lady Warhawk volleyball team came away with a 3-2 win at Huntingdon Monday night to improve their record to 3-8 overall.
JDCC won set one 25-22, but suffered a 25-23 loss in set two and a 25-12 loss in set three to fall behind in the match 2-1.
In set four, JDCC evened the match up at 2-all with a 25-15 win. In the fifth and final set tiebreaker, the Lady Warhawks earned a 15-13 win to claim the win.
“We played good in spurts,” JDCC head coach Steven Dickey said of the win. “Morgan Smith played very well at the net with four blocks and three kills. Lauren Bradley also played well in the middle with three blocks and three kills. Morgan Payne and Natalie Jernigan played great defense and passed well from the back row.”
Jessica Lewis led in kills with 10 and Lauren Pierce had eight while Jessica Porter and Christian Divens had seven and five respectively.
“Lauren Merts had another good night setting while Caitlin Aldridge, Tiffany Sawyer and Taylor Bradford played well too,” Dickey said. “It was a tough, hard fought win, and one we needed going into our conference match up with Lawson state on Wednesday night at 7:30 p.m.”
