A new pharmacy has opened in Brewton, but many will recognize the familiar face behind the counter.
Russell Sheldt has opened and is the owner of Family Discount Pharmacy. Family Discount Pharmacy is located at 2117 Douglas Avenue, in the Douglas Square Shopping Center. Sheldt is formerly of Fred’s Pharmacy in East Brewton.
The new pharmacy offers easy transfer of prescriptions and accepts most insurances and has a variety of over-the-counter medications and vitamins available. The pharmacy has more than 100 items in their special $1 selection of items for personal and home needs
Sheldt said being a third generation pharmacist, he learned a lot about customer service from his father and grandfather.
“A few years back, I worked at the Fred’s here in Brewton,” Sheldt said. “In the three years I was there, I was able to build a large clientele and I really enjoyed getting to know the people of Brewton. When given the opportunity to open an independent pharmacy here in Brewton, I felt confident that the business here would be successful.”

The pharmacy is open 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and is next door to Verizon.
“Hopefully, bringing a hometown pharmacy to Brewton will be an asset to the community,” Sheldt said.
