It was another war on the floor Thursday night inside T.R. Miller gymnasium as the Lady Tigers of TRM met up with the W.S. Neal Lady Eagles for the third time this season.
TRM came out on top of the Lady Eagles by a score of 3-1 to move to 11-1 while WSN fell to 5-6.
T.R. Miller won set one over W.S. Neal 25-23, but lost set two 25-22. In set three, TRM won 25-23 and came away with a 26-24 win in set four.
Lady Tiger head coach Greg White said he was glad his team got the win over WSN Thursday to finish with a 3-0 record against WSN this season, but he is glad there are no more games against WSN on the schedule.
“Like I told W.S. Neal at the end of the game when we gathered for prayer, I am tired of playing them,” White said. “I am glad we don’t have to play them anymore. It has been three great matches with them this year.
“All three have been some of the same type scores. I have won some and they have won some. It was good to win all three of them though this year because it could have gone either way.”
White said he gives W.S. Neal a lot of credit and thinks head coach Jason Blaney is doing a good job with his team.
“They hustle and get after it and make a lot of plays,” White said. “My hat is off to them. Give credit to my girls though. They hung in there again when things were not too good. We made the plays when we had too. When we got down, we stayed in the game. I am just proud of my kids for battling and staying in the game though. But like I said, I am glad we don’t have to play them anymore.”
Blaney said the match was another incredible match between the two schools as his team has now played T.R. Miller three times this year (two best of five sets and a best of three), and have played 11 sets against them, with nine of those 11 sets have been won by three or less points. But with all that being said, he offered thanks to those who helped one of his players after an injury during the second set.
“First I would like to thank Dr. (James) Walker, T.R. Miller athletic director, coaches, fans and players,” Blaney said. “We had a player go down during the second set and they were tremendous in their response and help. It was an incredible match. These matches have been outstanding. Fans on both sides have been outstanding. The sportsmanship has been off the charts. The play by both teams has been spectacular. I hate that we have come up short in these matches but every one of my girls has played awesome and has left it all on the court and that is all I can ask for. These matches have made us better and we will continue to see the improvements in our team as the season continues.”
In JV action, TRM won 2-0 (25-18 and 25-14). The win improved the Lady Tigers to 11-2 overall while W.S. Neal fell to 3-3.
In middle school action, BMS defeated WSNMS 2-0. The Lady Tigers won set one 25-8 and set two 25-12. The win improved BMS to 9-1 while WSNMS finished their season with a 10-3 record.
