With a playoff berth already under their belts, the W.S. Neal Eagle football team looks to continue their recent winning streak as they host Southside-Selma in their final region game of the season Friday night.
The Panthers come to East Brewton with a 3-5 overall record and is 1-4 in region play after falling to Clarke County 48-26 last week.
WSN is 6-0 all-time against Southside after winning 43-14 last year. The Eagles have outscored Southside 261-76 in those six games.
WSN head coach Doug Hoehn said Southside-Selma is a very athletic team.
“I think they are improved from last year when we played them,” Hoehn said. “They have a good quarterback in No. 7, Khamari Gibbs. He throws the ball well. He also runs the ball well. They also have a solid tailback and they like to spread you out and beat you in space.”
Hoehn also noted that Southside is very good in the kickoff and punt return game.
As for his team, Hoehn said it is a region game that his team needs to win.
“It is a very important region game,” Hoehn said. “We need to show up and play from the beginning. We need to take care of the ball game and play smart football for all four quarters.”
In WSN’s recent four-game winning streak, the Eagles are outscoring their opponents 216-36.
Game time is set for 7 p.m. in East Brewton.
