Shop local; buy Brewton.
That’s the new slogan for this year’s holiday shopping season and the newest collaboration among the Women’s Business Center, the City of Brewton and the Brewton Chamber of Commerce.
Designed as part of the “Shop Small” program by American Express, local shoppers are encouraged to post selfies with the local items purchased on Facebook and Instagram with the hashtag #shoplocalbuybrewton between Thurs., Nov. 20, and Dec. 11.
Santa will choose a winner on Dec. 11 who will take home a new grill and accessories from Jim Peach Motors and Peach Chevrolet.
“I’ve been working with the Main Street Alabama program, and they have talked about multiple ways to promote local business,” said Emmie Jernigan, director of the Women’s Business Center. “For a long time, people have said that we need to shop local because it fed families and raised money for streets and our schools. That’s true.
“But what’s also true is that people should shop Brewton because we have great stuff,” she said. “You can find things here that you can’t find any where else.”
Local businesses are invited to participate in the initative and open the doors on Thursday as part of the chamber’s downtown holiday event from 4-7 p.m. There is no cost to participate and no affiliation with American Express is required.
There will also be an art show on the boardwalk in front of The L House.
