Two alleged thieves from East Brewton were apprehended Wednesday evening after leaving the Andalusia Walmart with nearly $2,000 in TVs.
Andalusia Police Department Investigator Jody Scott said a concerned citizen witnessed the thieves putting two TVs into a shopping cart and leaving the store without purchasing the electronics.
“They just walked into the electronic department, grabbed the TVs and walked out,” Scott said.
The citizen alerted store employees to the theft, and the employee gave a description of the subjects and their vehicle to the APD.
The subjects, James McGougin, 27, and Timothy D. Anthony, 20, of East Brewton, were headed west on the Bypass when officers conducted a traffic stop.
“Officers headed to the West Bypass to try to locate them,” Scott said.
Scott said the officers made contact with McGougin and Anthony, had them pull over, and then directed them into the parking lot of Massey Automotive for safety reasons.
“The TVs were in plain view in the Dodge Durango they were driving,” Scott said.
Both men are currently being held in the Covington County Jail on charges of theft of property II, a class-C felony, and $10,000 bonds.
