TRM basketball: TRM Tigers swept by MCHS Tigers Saturday in Monroeville

All three T.R. Miller basketball teams took losses Saturday in Monroeville. The losses ended the winning streaks for the Lady Tigers and varsity Tigers.
In B-team action, the Tigers took a 36-27 loss to fall to 4-8 overall this season.
In girl’s action, the Lady Tigers lost 37-36 to drop to 13-8 overall. The loss ended the Lady Tigers’ six game winning streak.
In varsity boy’s action, TRM lost 61-51 to fall to 12-6 overall. The loss ended the Tigers’ seven game winning streak.
Monroe County 36, TRM B-team 27
Tied 18-18 at the end of the third quarter, TRM’s B-team was outscored 18-9 in the fourth quarter to take a nine point loss, 36-27.
Monroe County jumped out to a 9-2 lead over TRM after one quarter of play, but the Tigers of TRM closed the gap in the second quarter with a 7-2 run to trail 11-9 at the half.
In the third quarter, TRM tied the game at 18-18 with a 9-7 advantage.
In the fourth, MCHS ended the game on an 18-9 run to get the win by nine points.
Jeremy Purdie led TRM with eight points while Josh Jolly finished with seven. Michael Campbell and Hayden Atkinson both finished with four points each in the loss. Stokes Jennings chipped in three points and Darius Williams had one point.
MCHS Lady Tigers 37, TRM Lady Tigers 36
TRM’s Lady Tigers blew a 10-point lead in the fourth quarter to suffer a 37-36 defeat from Monroe County Saturday in Monroeville.
Leading 28-18 after three quarters of play, TRM was outscored 19-8 in the final quarter to take the one-point loss.
TRM led Monroeville 8-5 after one quarter and 21-14 at the half following a 13-9 advantage in the second quarter.
In the third, TRM increased their lead with a 7-4 advantage, before losing the game in the fourth quarter and snapping their six-game winning streak.
Mekiah Williams led with 11 points while Kyla Bell finished with 10. Steely Ruzic added five points while Morgan Longmire and Tiana Stallworth had three points each. Shae Nicholson and Akilah Brazile had two points each in the loss.
MCHS varsity Tigers 61, TRM varsity Tigers 51
Having stunned Monroe County earlier in the season in Brewton with an overtime win, MCHS got the better of the Tigers Saturday in Monroeville as they claimed a 61-51 win over TRM.
The loss came despite having Kellyn Winn pour in 21 points and Chardian Johnson adding 15. Trae Walker chipped in eight points, Ahmaud Taylor had five and Austin Holmes had two points in the loss.
MCHS jumped out to a 12-4 lead over TRM after one quarter of play before edging out the Tigers 17-14 in the second quarter to build a 29-18 lead at the half.
In the third quarter, both teams equaled their second quarter production as a 17-14 MCHS advantage led to a 46-32 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
In the fourth, TRM made a late run as they outscored MCHS 19-15, but took the loss by 10 points.
