Cub Scouts celebrate growth, year

The Brewton Area Cub Scouts have wrapped up their year with many accomplishments and has seen it come with growth.
The group started out with one Cub Scout and has seen the group grow to 12 at the end of the season. Some of the events that the Cub Scouts participated in included a Sportsman Shooting Day in Flomaton, a tour of the Brewton Police Department, Bike-Rodeo, Jamboree-on-the-Air (Ham Radio event), hiking at the Andalusia State Park, riding in the Brewton Christmas Parade, and Pine Wood Derby Race. The Cub Scouts also went camping at Camp Paquette in the Blackwater River State Forest.
At the Cub Scout Cross Over Ceremony, Jacob Thelen earned the Arrow of Light and advanced in to the Brewton Boy Scout Troop 42. Troop 42 had a total of 11 Cub Scouts move up in their ranks.
Blain Brown and Connor long went from Tiger Cubs to Wolf Cubs, Joseph Carpenter, Aidan Gonzalez, Noah Read and Ian Watson went from Wolf Cubs to Bear Cubs, Greyson Grant, Elijah Harman, Dakota Hammac, Quinn Hipple and Braxton Winstead went from Bear Cubs to Webelos.
“We had a very successful year of advancements and fun in the Scouting program this year,” Master Rick Thelen said.
The Cub Scouts summer events will kick off with an Ice Cream Social on Tues., May 19 at 7 p.m., located at the Scout Hut behind the First Methodist Church in the parking lot.
“Everyone is welcome to come,” Thelen said. “It is a good opportunity to learn more about the Scouting program here in Brewton.”
