Brewton BR 15U all-stars defeat MC to win district championship

Playing for the district championship Wednesday in Poarch, it took two games for the Brewton Babe Ruth 15U all-stars to clinch the title, but they got the job done.
Needing one win over Monroe County in Wednesday’s title game, Brewton lost to Monroe County 10-7 in 10 innings.
In a winner-take-all second game, Brewton earned a 16-5 win in five innings to claim the title.
Game one: Monroe County 10, Brewton 7
In game one, Brewton blew a 7-5 lead in the top of the seventh inning to see Monroe County win in extra innings.
Leading Monroe County 7-5 after six innings, Brewton saw MC scored two in the seventh to tie the game up. After Brewton went scoreless in the bottom of the seventh, neither team scored in the eighth or ninth innings.
In the 10th inning, MC plated three runs and held Brewton scoreless to get the win by three and force a deciding second game.
For Brewton at the plate in the loss, Stokes Jennings went 2-for-3 with one RBI while Matt Hutchins, Jacobey Hawthorne, Westin Riddle, Jason Konsler, Kristian Taylor, Daniel Reed and Hunter Johnson all had one hit each. Konsler and Taylor both had a double while Hutchins led with two RBIs. Konsler added one RBI in the loss.
On the mound, Drew Williamson, Hutchins, Riddle and Taylor pitched with Williamson taking the loss.
The quartet of pitchers combined to go 10 innings and allowed 12 hits, 10 runs, seven earned, walked four and struck out six.
Game two: Brewton 16, Monroe County 5
Leading MC 1-0 after one inning, Brewton scored seven runs in the second inning to make quick work of MC as they claimed a 16-5 win in five innings.
Brewton’s seven-run second inning gave them an 8-0 lead and they added four more in the third to take a 12-0 lead.
After MC cut the lead to 12-3, Brewton added two more in the fourth and fifth innings and MC added two more in the fifth as Brewton took the win by 11 runs.
At the plate for Brewton, Jennings went 2-for-4 with one RBI while Hawthorne went 3-for-4 with one RBI.
Williamson, PJ Lovelace, Hutchins, Riddle and Johnson all added one hit each with Williamson and Hawthorne having a double.
Williamson finished with two RBIs while Lovelace, Hutchins, and Riddle had one RBI each.
On the mound, Jennings and Hawthorne pitched and Hawthorne claimed the win.
The two went five innings and allowed six hits, five runs, four earned, walked two, struck out seven and hit two batters.
