Both the T.R. Miller and the W.S. Neal football teams joined other football teams from across the state Monday morning for the official start of the fall season for the 2015 season.
T.R. Miller began practice Monday morning at 7 a.m. and TRM head coach Jamie Riggs said he was pleased the way practice went, but he thinks the players are looking for something different.
“The first day of practice went fine,” Riggs said. “We are like most schools these days I think in that we do so many days of shorts in the summer, that the first day of practice is really anticlimactic. I think everyone is really looking forward to putting on shoulder pads. As far as Monday’s first day of practice, I thought it went pretty well.”
Riggs said TRM will practice at 7 a.m. every morning through Thursday.
“We have teacher meetings on Friday so we will go in the afternoons through next week,” he said. “We will practice a little later next Friday due to our Miller night. Then the following week is game week.”
In East Brewton, W.S. Neal began practice Monday after having team pictures.
“Practice went well for the first day,” WSN head coach Doug Hoehn said. “We were able to get our picture day out of the way. The kids are working very hard.”
Hoehn said his practice schedule will see the team hitting the field at different times this week and next.
“We will practice Wednesday at 7:30 a.m. and at 4:30 p.m.,” he said. “We will practice Thursday at 7:30 a.m. and then again on Friday afternoon and Saturday morning.”
TRM opens their season on Fri., Aug. 21, at home against Andalusia while WSN will travel to Milton, Fla., for a preseason game on Thurs., Aug. 20.
