Coming off its first win of the season Friday night in Atmore, the W.S. Neal Eagles will welcome the Clarke County Bulldogs into town for the first region game of the season.
CCHS enters the game with WSN with an 0-1 record after losing to Jackson 35-0 Thursday night.
Last year, WSN lost 24-0 to Clarke County to bring their record to 5-9 all-time against the Bulldogs. WSN last won in 2003.
“Clarke County is bigger than us, faster than us and has a lot of talent,” WSN head coach Doug Hoehn said. “They are just like last year. They have good athletes and it is going to be a tough game for us. They have some kids already committed to Division 1.”
Hoehn said CCHS is a very good football team and his team is going to have to find a way to deal with their speed.
“We can’t make penalties and get behind the chains,” he said. “The are just too good of a team to get behind the chains on. We have to be effective in moving the ball.”
WSN comes into the game with a 1-0 record after taking down Atmore 42-14. Hoehn said it is nice to have a win, but he is not happy about the penalties his team had the first half.
“We are proud that the kids improved and had a better second half,” he said. “We are glad everyone got to play. The younger kids played really good in the second half. We didn’t have the penalties we did in the first half.”
Hoehn said after watching the film, he thinks the Atmore kids played really hard. “They frustrated us at times,” he said. “They are an athletic team and got after us pretty good.”
