Thomas Allen Starling, 58, of Henry Lane in Brewton, passed away Wed., Sept. 9, 2015 at his residence after a brief illness.

Memorial services were held Sat., Sept. 26, at 2:30 p.m. at the Cobbtown Holiness Church in Jay, Fla., with Pastor Joe Eddie Macks officiating and Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing.

He was a native and former resident of Starke, Fla., before moving to Brewton. He was a member of the New Covenant Holiness Church in Century, Fla., and a former long haul truck driver in the transportation industry.

He is survived by his wife, Karen Henry Starling of Brewton; two sons, William Starling of Starke and John McCall of Brewton; two daughters, Esther Nall and Mary Starling, both of Starke; two sisters, Kathy Guthie and Marcia Scott, both of Lake Butler, Fla.; extended family, John McCall, Kathy McCall and April McCall Stitcher of Brewton; 11 grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren of Brewton, and Starke.

James ‘Jim’ Willard Moorman Jr.

Panama City Beach, Fla.

 

James “Jim” Willard Moorman Jr., 70, of Panama City Beach, passed away Mon., Sept. 21, 2015, in a Panama City, Fla., medical facility after a brief illness.

Graveside services were held Sat., Sept. 26, at 12:30 p.m. at Union Cemetery with Elder Wayne Ellis and Speaker Mike Edwards officiating and Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing.

He was a native and long time resident of Brewton. He was a member of the Brewton First United Methodist Church, a 1963 graduate of T.R. Miller High School, a U.S. Army veteran having served in Vietnam, and was employed with the Department of Defense with 27 years and eight months of service.

He is survived by his wife, Tatyana Moorman; two sons, Andrew Bozov and Mike Howard; a daughter, Joy Nieves; a sister, Martha Moorman Staff; and a first cousin, Pam Hawkinson.

Edwin ‘Ed’ Franklin Johnson

Edwin “Ed” Franklin Johnson, 81, of Flomaton, passed away Wed., Sept. 23, 2015, at his residence after a brief illness.

Funeral services were held Sat., Sept. 26, at 2 p.m. at Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Doug Hogg officiating. Interment followed in Pineview Cemetery with Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing.

He was a native of Frostproff, Fla., and a long time resident of Flomaton.

He was a member of the Little Escambia Baptist Church, a graduate of Flomaton High School, an U.S. Army veteran, a member of the Masonic Norris Lodge No. 301, and a retired plant supervisor from Exxon.

He is survived by his wife, Sara Boone Johnson of Flomaton; two sons, Melvin Johnson of Kentucky and Jason (Rebecca) Johnson of Fredericksburg, Va.; one daughter, Marilyn Wilson of Flomaton; a brother, Jimmy Johnson of Flomaton; four sisters, Ernestine Johnson of Mobile, Eleanor Jo Jackson of Mildred Lunsford of Flomaton and Gail Calahan of Mobile; four grandchildren, Sara Johnson, Caleb Johnson, Janey Johnson and Jenna Johnson; and number of nieces and nephews

Grace Mae Wisdom Boozer

Brewton

 

Grace Mae Wisdom Boozer, 91, of Brewton, passed away Wed., Sept. 23, 2015, in a Pensacola, Fla. nursing facility after a brief illness.

She was a native of Piedmont, a former resident of Holt, Ala., and Brewton, before moving to Pensacola. She attended the Brewton First Baptist Church, and was a former employee of Judy Bond and a homemaker.

Graveside services were held Sun., Sept. 27, at 2 p.m. at Green Acres Cemetery with the Rev. John Finklea officiating. Interment followed in Green Acres Cemetery with Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing.

She is survived by two sons, Dennis (Ella Anne) Boozer of Beaumont, Calif., and Tyson (Jackie) Boozer of Pensacola; a daughter, Brenda Jackson of Murfressboro, Tenn.; two sisters, Sue (Bill) Mullins of Meridianville, Ala., and Jo (Charlie) Hanson of Glencoe, Ala.; six grandchildren, Sonya (Wayne) Schneider of Cartersville, Ga., Yvette Jackson of Memphis, Tenn., Sean (Lori) Jackson of DeRidder, La., Andrea Boozer of Fontana, Calif., Leslie Anne Boozer of Fontana, and Greg (Luticia) Boozer of Gulf Breeze, Fla.; and five great-grandchildren, Drew Schneider, Alexis Schneider, Parker Jackson, Keiji Boozer and Kaelen Boozer.

Charles Wilburn Northcutt

Brewton

 

Charles Wilburn Northcutt, 93, died Sat., Sept. 26, 2015 following complications from surgery.

Funeral services will be held on Thurs,, Oct. 1, at 11 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Brewton with the Rev. Anthony McCullough and Dr. Ed Glaize officiating. Interment will follow in Union Cemetery with Craver’s Funeral Home directing.

A celebration of life reception will be held afterwards in the church fellowship hall.

He was born on Dec. 16, 1921, in Evergreen, son of William Benjamin Northcutt and Lula Northcutt. He graduated from Evergreen High School in 1940 as valedictorian.

He graduated from the University of Alabama in 1946 with a degree in commerce and business administration. He earned the Alpha Kappa Psi Medallion awarded to the male student in the junior class with the highest scholastic average for the first three years of study at Alabama.

He was a U.S. veteran and served in finance with the U.S. Army during World War II.

He moved to Brewton in 1946 as an associate of Thomas E. McMillan. He was a partner with Mr. McMillan and Mr. Cecil Huff in H & N Trucking and AlaFlora Forest Products.

He was a lifetime member of the Greater Brewton Lions Club. He earned the Lion Club 50 Year Monarch Award, was Lion of the Year in 1996-99 and received the Melvin Jones Fellow Award for Dedicated humanitarian services from the Lions Club International Foundation.

He was a founding organizer of The Alabama Blueberry Festival and was instrumental in establishing the Veteran’s Memorial at the Escambia County Courthouse in Brewton.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church where he was Lay Leader and Church School Superintendent. He was a delegate to the United Methodist Alabama-West Florida Annual Conference for many years.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Marguerite Jernigan Northcutt, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and nine brothers and sisters.

Zolena Peevy

East Brewton

 

Zolena Peevy, 90, of East Brewton, died Mon., Sept. 28, 2015, in a Century nursing facility.

Funeral services will be held on Fri., Oct. 2, at 3 p.m. from the chapel of Craver’s Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Union Cemetery.

Visitation will be held at Craver’s Funeral Home on Friday from 2 p.m. until service time at 3 p.m.

She was born in Pace, Fla., and was a life-long resident of Conecuh and Escambia Counties in Alabama. She worked as a sales associate at Walmart and she was a member of Cedar Hill Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Mallory H. McClellan, Isaac Z. Little, and Durward Peevy; and a grandson, Charles Michael Starnes.

She is survived by three sons, John Isaac (Margaret) Little of Glendale, Ariz., William E. (Kathy) Little of Castleberry, and Jerry T. (Rhonda) Little of Clearmont, Fla.; one daughter, Shirley (John) Schad of Pensacola, Fla.; one sister, Allie Mae Hobbs of Castleberry; seven grandchildren, Tammy Starnes, Rhonda Baca, Eric Little, Heather Wilson, Jeremy Little, James Little and Jonathan Callahan; and eight great-grandchildren, Ryan Baca, Alex Little, Julianna Little, Aislee Wilson, Madlyn Wilson, Alan Little, James Callahan Jr., and Isabela Callahan.

Doris Mae Thompson

Flomaton

 

Doris Mae Brown Thompson, 92, of Flomaton, passed away on Mon., Sept. 28, 2015 at her home.

Graveside services will be held on Wed., Sept. 30, at 11 a.m. at Flomaton Cemetery with Rev. Kathy McKinley officiating and Flomaton Funeral Home directing.

She was a native of Flomaton and a life-long member of the Flomaton community where she served as Post Master for the United States Postal Service. She was a member of Flomaton United Methodist Church and of the Eastern Star.

She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Melvin Howard

Pensacola, Fla.

 

Melvin Howard, 68, died Tues. Sept. 22, 2015, at a Pensacola hospital.

Funeral services were held Sat., Sept. 26, at St. Peter Missionary Baptist Church in Pollard. with the Rev. Willie Frank Osby officiating. Burial followed at the church cemetery with Jones Unity Funeral Home directing.

He was a laborer with T.R. Miller Box Factory in Brewton  and a member of St. Peter Missionary Baptist Church.

He is survived by two daughters, Chryle Anite Wesley and Contina Howard, both of Pensacola; a brother, Lorenza (Margaret) Howard of Pensacola; two grandchildren and a host of other friends and family.

 

Mencile Spain Hubbard

Brewton

 

Mencile Spain Hubbard was born Feb. 28, 1923 to Aaron Lamont Spain and Nettie Lett Spain in Pollard. Due to the death of her mother, at the age of six, her grandparents, Pastor Sandy Alexander Lett and Laura Washington Lett stepped in and raised her as their own.

Funeral services were held Thurs., Sept. 24, 2015, at 11 a.m. at Second Saint Siloam Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Willie J. Blue officiating. Burial followed at Baptist Hill Cemetery with Presley-Fluker Funeral Home directing.

She was a member of Second Saint Siloam Missionary Baptist Church, a cook for Ed Leigh McMillan Sr. and employed in housekeeping at D.W. McMillan Hospital. She was well-known for her buttermilk biscuits by those who knew her.

She is survived by her children, Mary Hubbard Lovelace, Clascile Hubbard Broughton, Margaret Hubbard Herbert, Virginia Hubbard Nicholson, Henry Barnard Hubbard and Edward Morris Hubbard; 40 grandchildren; 66 great-grandchildren; 29 great-great-grandchildren; Beatrice Lewis and Ira Thomas who she considered her own; and a host of other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Hubbard; her siblings, Morris, Laura and Barnard Spain; and four sons-in-law.

Annie Richardson Jones, 83, a resident of Montgomery, Ala. and former resident of Castleberry, passed away on Sat., Sept. 26, 2015. Funeral services will be held on Thurs., Oct. 1, 2015 from the First Baptist Church of Greater Washington Park, with the Dr. Willie Welch III officiating. Burial will follow at 3:30 p.m. at the Little Brooklyn Church Cemetery in Brewton. Bell-Lee’s Funeral Home is directing.

 

Devontaye ’Trey’ Treyvon Taylor

Brewton

 

Devontaye Treyvon Taylor, 18, of Brewton died Fri., Sept. 25, 2015 in an automobile accident. He was a 2015 graduate of W.S. Neal High School in East Brewton, a member of the St. Mark Baptist Church in Brewton, a standout basketball and football player for W.S. Neal and an avid hunter and fisherman. He was also a UFC wrestling team sports wrestler. He was employed by Quality Lawn Care Service in Brewton.

He is survived by is mother, Aquila Nettles of Brewton; one daughter, Mackenzie Taylor of Brewton; grandparents Jacob (Brenda) Gray of Brewton; four sisters Breanah and Kadeja Taylor of Brewton, Heavenly and RaAngel Crenshaw of Montgomery, AL; two brothers, Anthony and Khadarrius Taylor of Brewton and a host of relatives and friends.

Visitation with the family will be Fri., Oct. 2, 2015 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. from the Chapel of Mayberry Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Sat., Oct. 3 at 2:30 p.m. at the auditorium of W.S. Neal High School in East Brewton with interment in the St. Mark cemetery in Pea Ridge, Brewton. Professional services entrusted to Mayberry Funeral Home.
