The W.S. Neal girls, boys and B team started off on the good foot with wins in their season openers.
The WSN Lady Eagles defeated the Pensacola Catholic Crusaders on the road by double digits, 45-23.
The score remained relatively close going into halftime with WSN leading 19-11. The Lady Eagles would blow the door wide open in the third quarter, outscoring Pensacola Catholic 23-10.
Leading WSN was senior KeKe Floyd with 24 points, four rebounds and three steals; sophomore Marishia Frasier with 10 points and nine rebounds; and junior Taylor Burns with four points and 10 rebounds.
Lady Eagle’s coach Dewan Salter said he was proud of his team effort in their first game.
“We got off to a slow start in the first period and fell behind 7-0,” Salter said. “Despite being sick most of the game, (Floyd) really came on strong and got us right back into the game. She had a really good night. (Frasier) also played well. We did some things well in areas and not so good in others, but I was proud of our team effort through the game.”
In their season opener this past Friday, the WSN Eagles defeated Pensacola Christian Academy, 57-45.
WSN closed out the game strong, scoring 24 points in the fourth quarter.
Eagle’s coach Dewan Salter said his team showed signs of rust but it’s to be expected of the first game of the season. “It’s always great for the team to get that first win,” Salter said. “We came into the game a little tight, didn’t shoot the ball well and made some mistakes, which is expected for the first game. Team effort was great. (Shell) played extremely well.”
Leading WSN was Tyshawn Davis with 12 points, eight rebounds, eights assists, five steals and two blocks; Dalton Shell with 15 points and five rebounds; Darius Tolbert with 10 points, four rebounds and two blocks; and Troy Lewis with nine points and nine rebounds.
The B team captured their first win this season beating Pensacola Christian, 34-11.
Leading the team was Ricky Samuel with eight points and Keaton Yuhasz with six points.
