The Christmas holidays are always full of music and nowhere is it more beautiful than in local churches as the different choirs “make a joyful noise.”
Todd Ray is the minister of music at First Baptist Church of Brewton and this is the busiest time of the year for the various choirs in the church.
“The month of December is the busiest one for those of us who are in charge of the church’s music,” Ray said.
“Sometimes we focus on big cantatas but not always. It’s nice to change things around. This year we have programs throughout the month of December, and we are featuring all the choirs, from the preschoolers up to the senior choir.”
On Sunday, Dec. 6, the special services will begin at 9 a.m. with the Happy Hearts Choir (the senior choir) featuring the special guest, Frank Jones, in concert on the piano.
The Sanctuary Choir will present its Christmas program at 9 a.m. on Dec. 13. It is “Emanuel, God With Us” and will feature favorite Christmas anthems along with the choir, band and soloists that night at 6 p.m. the children’s choir will perform.
On Dec. 20, at 9 a.m. the service of song will feature a favorite Christmas carol sing. The season will conclude with Vesper services at 6 p.m. on Christmas Eve.
“We would like to invite our members and everyone else to join us in one, or all, of the services. I think they would get a blessing out of them.”
Ray has served as music minister for the past seven years at First Baptist Church of Brewton. He and his wife, Heather, came here from Oneonta in 2008, along with their two sons, Andrew and Caleb.
