Errors plague Tigers’ play in tournament

The T.R. Miller Tigers suffered two losses in its first two games of the Butch Youmans Memorial Tournament, losing to G.W. Long in a high scoring game, 13-10, followed by a loss to Andalusia 7-1. The Tigers closed out tournament play with a win against New Brockton 11-4.

Miller found itself in the hole early, down 5-2 after the first inning. The deficit was short lived when the Tigers plated three runs in the third inning to tie the game. G.W. Long scored a run in the top of the fourth to take the 6-5 lead.

Miller had a big inning in the fifth, scoring five runs.

After a scoreless sixth inning from both teams, G.W. Long rallied for a seven-run seventh inning. The Tigers were unable to score at the bottom of the inning.

Floyd led the Tigers with three hits, including a double, and four RBIs. Hunter Brittain went 3-for-5 with a double. O’neil White and Joshua Winton each had two hits.

Miller had 13 hits in the game. G.W. Long had 12.

Floyd suffered the loss on the mound, pitching five innings of relief and surrendering six runs on eight hits and striking out six batters.

Caleb Winton started the game on the mound allowing three runs on four walks, one hit and two strikeouts.

Miller made five errors in the field.

 

TRM 1, Andalusia 7

Runs were hard to come by for TRM against the Bulldogs. Andalusia busted the game open with a five-run third inning. The Tigers scored in the top of the fourth off a sac fly by Hunter Brittain.

Andalusia scored two more runs in the bottom of the sixth to pull away for the win.

Miller had a total of five hits.

Brittain suffered the loss on the mound, allowing five runs, with three walks and two strikeouts.

Stokes Jennings pitched 4 2/3 innings of relief, allowing two runs on four hits with two strikeouts.

Clay Stephens pitched the complete game for the Bulldogs, allowing one run on four hits and a walk.

 

New Brockton 4, TRM 11 

After scoring only one run in its previous game, the Tigers were able to get the bats going against New Brockton.

With New Brockton leading 3-2 going into the bottom of third, the Tigers scored four runs to take the 6-3 lead.

Both teams manufactured a run in the sixth inning. Miller plated four runs in the seventh inning.

Hunter Brittain went 3-for-5 at the plate with a home run and two RBIs. Tripp Floyd had two hits and three RBIs. Jason Konsler had a double and two RBIs.

Brittain picked up the win on the mound, pitching five innings, allowing three runs on six hits with seven strikeouts.

Joshua Winton came in for two innings of relief, allowing one run, on one hit, with two strikeouts.
