SPRAG collecting for flood victims

One local group has joined in the mission to assist in the massive flooding recovery effort in Louisiana
SPRAG – “Single Parents Raising A Gift” group – works to serve the community as a source of encouragement and motivation to the single parents and their families, said organizer Carolyn Bradley.
“We will strive to educate and empower all who are in need by teaching them to not let their past determine their future,” Bradley said. “SPRAG is an organization that believes in helping the community in a time of need. Although we don’t live in the community of Louisiana, we still want to lend a helping hand during their time of need.”
Federal officials estimate that 160,000 homes, businesses and other buildings were damaged by the Louisiana flood. To date, approximately 122,000 households have registered for disaster relief.
As the rebuilding period begins, there is a growing need for items needed to help “rebuild lives,” Bradley said.
And that’s where SPRAG comes in, she said.
The group is collecting items such as construction glvoes, dust masks, drop cloths, extension cords, cloth nail aprons, drywall tape, mud plans, paint brushes and rollers, and the like.
The group will be collecting the items Saturday next to Speedy Lube and in front Christ Kingdom Ministry Center from 7 a.m. until noon. The items will be delivered in the following days to Denham Springs, La.
