Boys, girls team earn 2nd place overall

The T.R. Miller High Tiger Swim Team recently hosted four teams in their second home Invitational meet of the season, on Tues., Nov 1, 2016.

The meet had high schools representing 3A-6A classifications, teams participating were, Enterprise, Foley, Baldwin Co. High, Robertsdale and TRM.

Tigers in action Tuesday night were:

• freshman Cole Jernigan;

• senior Dawson Varner;

• eighth grader Sailor Smith;

• seventh grader Nolan Atkinson;

• freshman Dean Thelen;

• seventh grader Jacob Thelen;

• eighth grader Sara Scott;

• freshman Elizabeth Glass;

• eighth grader Mac Baxter;

• senior Chris Guthrie;

• eighth grader Jocelyn Carpenter;

• seventh grader Caleb Kent; and,

• sophomore Tiffany Reiss.

The Tigers swam with ferocity as they stepped up to the blocks as the smallest team competing at the meet.

Miller’s combined men’s and women’s team took second place overall finishing just behind 6A powerhouse Enterprise, but in front of 6A Robertsdale who brought 34 athletes, and finished 3rd overall, Foley High High School with 23 athletes and Baldwin Co. High School, with 28 athletes, both 6A teams.

Top swimmers overall for males were:

• Jernigan, TRM, first place, 24 points; and,

• Baxter, TRM, second place,15 points

Top swimmers overall for females were: 

• Sara Scott, TRM, first place, 15 points; and,

• Riley Hines, Enterprise, second place, 14 points

The boys and girls medley and relay teams qualified for sectionals.

Individuals with sectional cuts were Cole Jernigan, Mac Baxter, Nolan Atkinson and Sara Scott.
