TRM swim looks to build for stronger year

The T.R. Miller Tiger swim team is gearing up for its second swim season this fall. The team held tryouts in May and coach Angel Boyd said the team will hone a good mix of new and seasoned swimmers on the 2017 roster.
“We are working hard in the off season, with summer workouts in the pool and gym,” Boyd said. “We seem to be poised for another run at qualifying for the high school state meet. After a year under our belts, we are beginning to shape the team according to their strengths and focus on individual strokes with each athlete, tailoring their workouts to fit their individual stroke strengths and developmental needs.”
The boys’ team will feature 10th grader, Cole Jernigan; ninth grader, Mac Baxter; eighth grader, Nolan Atkinson; 11th grader Dean Thelen; eighth grader, Caleb Kent; seventh grader, Patrick Noble; eighth grader, Jacob Thelen; and (new comer?), 10th grader, Cobi Godwin.
Jernigan will concentrate on the 100 backstroke and 200 freestyle. Baxter will concentrate on the 100 breaststroke, 100 fly and 200 IM. Atkinson will focus on the 50 and 100 freestyles. Dean Thelen will focus on the 100, 200, and 500 freestyle. Kent will focus on the 200 IM, and 100 fly. Noble will focus on the 500 and 100 freestyle. Jacob Thelen will focus on the 100 back and breaststrokes. Godwin will focus on the 100 breaststroke and 50 freestyle.
The girls’ team will feature 10th grader, Elizabeth Glass; 11th grader, Tiffany Reiss ; ninth grader, Sailor Smith; ninth grader, Sara Scott; ninth grader, Jocelyn Carpenter; and newcomers, seventh grader, Raylee Holcomb; and ninth grader, Hannah Malory.
Glass will concentrate on the 50 and 100 freestyles. Reiss will focus on the 100 backstroke and 200 IM. Smith will focus on the 100 fly and IM. Scott will focus on the 100 breaststroke and freestyle. Carpenter will focus on the 100 backstroke and IM. Holcomb will focus on the freestyle. Malory will focus on the freestyle and backstroke.
“The Tigers are working hard, and we are continuing to build our young program,” Boyd said “We are excited about the 2017 season, and look forward to seeing how far our Tigers can take this program.”
