Looking ahead: WSN vs. UMS Wright

WSN hosts UMS Wright tonight in a 4A region 1 matchup.
The two teams are currently tied for second place in region play, both sitting at 2-1.
The team’s only common opponent so far has been Satsuma, who both teams defeated.
The all-time series is 10-4 in favor of UMS Wright, having taken seven in a row from the Eagles dating back to 1993.
Last year’s game was a tale of two halves for WSN in a 37-0 loss. UMS came into the contest ranked No. 1 in 4A in the state. After trailing 28-0 at half, the Eagles’ defense held UMS to just nine points in the second half and outgained them offensively. 99 of WSN’s 125 total yards of offense came in that second half. While that didn’t translate to points, maybe the momentum will carry over to this year’s game.
UMS’s defense is only allowing 12 points a game this year to opponents, as they are physical and fast.
WSN’s offense is averaging 31 points a game, so the matchup with UMS’s defense should be an interesting one.
Forecast: Expect this game to come down to WSN’s offensive line and UMS Wright’s defensive line. If the Eagle’s can get a push against the Bulldog’s up front, it would allow for Maddox, Hawthorne and Bonam to get into open space, where they are extremely dangerous. It’s going to be a touch matchup, but an important one to see where the Eagles stand as a group as the season winds down.
GO BIG BLUE!
