The annual Christmas parade, sponsored by the Greater Brewton Area Chamber of Commerce, will be held Fri., Dec. 8, at 6 p.m.
Santa will arrive on the fire truck throwing tons of candy, said Chamber executive director Judy Crane.
“And Mrs. Claus, too,” Crane said. “It’s such a fun and wonderful night, and we encourage local businesses and civic organizations, in an effort to receive prize money, to build colorful floats.”
There is no fee to enter for Chamber members and school related organizations; however, those wishing to be judged for cash prizes, the entry fee is $30. For non-chamber members, the fee is $20 per entry for businesses and $10 for organizations and clubs. Cash prizes are: $200 for first place; $100 for second and $50, third.
Everyone is urged to please use safety precautions during and after the parade.
The parade will line up in East Brewton and travel down Forrest Avenue, over the bridge on Mildred Street, to the main intersection at the railroad tracks. It will then turn onto St. Joseph Street to Belleville Avenue and will disband on side streets of McLellan, Rankin and Granberry.
Those with questions or to register, contact the Chamber of Commerce office at 867.3224.
In the event of inclement rain, the parade will be held on Sat., Dec. 9, at 6 p.m.
After the parade, a combined choir performance from local churches will be held down by the city mural.
There will also be a night market set up for those last-minute holiday shoppers.
The city will be running the train at Dogwood Hills for tours of the light show.
