Man charged with sex abuse after groping female corrections officer

An Atmore man has been charged with sex abuse I after allegedly groping a female corrections officer at the Escambia County Detention Center in Brewton, according to the sheriff’s office.
Chief Deputy Mike Lambert said Eric John Williams, 19, of Atmore, has been arrested and charged with sexual abuse I and other charges.
“There was an allegation that took place on a female corrections officer,” Lambert said. “The allegation is that he groped a female corrections officer while incarcerated while she was coming through the unit during an inspection.”
Williams was incarcerated for other crimes, including theft of property II, attempting to break and enter, three counts of attempting to break and enter a vehicle, attempting to elude, failure to obey a law enforcement officer, three counts of theft of property II, criminal mischief III, burglary II, theft of property I and violation of probation.
Williams is currently being held on a $200,000 bond.
