The T.R. Miller track and field is ready to go as they prepare for their first meet at McGill Toolen in Mobile on Saturday.

T.R. Miller track team is returning looking to make a run with the leadership of head coach Eddie Brundidge. This is Brundidge’s 29th year coaching, and he said, he is looking forward to the season with both boys and girls. The Tigers opening practice was Feb.12, he said.

“We have a good group of boys and girls, where we have a chance to win the top two or three,” Brundidge said.

He said, TRM lost a few girls from last year, but “we have a good group of girls who have been working to get ready for the season.” “Our girls are motivated from last year where our track team competed in the state competition in Cullman,” Brundidge said. “If we can stay healthy and have the right attitude we can represent T.R. Miller well.”

“Running track is not about being better than someone else you just have to stride to be better than what you used to be,” T.R. Miller track runner Orlando Gandy Jr. said.

T.R. Miller Cross Country who previously won the 2017 3A state championship is also ready to get going with head coach Rob Atkinson. Atkinson is in his 19th year at T.R. Miller.

“We are focused, and looking to improve every day and with that we will take the results,” Atkinson said. “We have some good meets coming up with four of them being home meets. We had a tremendous amount of success for the past few years and looking forward to it again this season.”

“We will be bringing a lot of people and teams to the community this year for our meets,” Atkinson said. “There will be at least 2,000 to 3,000 people at the sectional meet, he said. With at least 1,500 athletes along with parents.

Atkinson said, “We are looking for a good year, as our girls has been successful for the last 10 years. Our boys are working on speed and their skills as we try to get to a higher level, but overall, we have some good talented athletes.”

T.R. Miller will be hosting the sectional meets for 2A, 3A, and 4A on April 27-28 where approximately 44 teams will be present here, Atkinson said.
