BOE OKs SRO for Flomaton

The Escambia County Board of Education approved the use of a school resource officer for the town of Flomaton at the two schools there at its meeting on March 22.
The two of Flomaton will provide an SRO to Flomaton High and Elementary School for the remainder of the 2017-18 school year. The officer will work under the Escambia County Sheriff’s Department’s SRO program that’s in place.
In other business, the board:
• authorized an application for federal funds and grants for the018-19 school year;
• approved the 2018 Jump Start Programs for ECSS;
• approved Title I Summer Programs for ECSS;
• approved 21st Century Community Learning Center Summer Programs for ECSS;
• approved CNP Seamless Summer Option for meals during the month of June. Breakfast and lunch will be prepared at Escambia County High School and W.S. Neal Elementary;
• approved summer maintenance custodians;
• approved the hiring of students for summer work;
• approved the signing of a contract with the Brewton and Atmore Area YMCAs for the use of a bus during the YMCA Summer Day Camp programs;
• approved the contract extension with Information Transport Solutions from 2014-15 contracts, and extended the VOIP and WAN/Internet access contracts with ITS for one year, from July 1, 2018 to June 30, 2019, in the amount of $411,600;
• awarded cell phone service from July 1, 2018 to June 30, 2019 to SouthernLinc Wireless for $32,200;
• approved bid No. 2018-027-1 for LAN upgrade to Information Transport Solutions for $464,260.95;
• approved a commitment to the sidewalks grant project for the city of East Brewton for $25,000;
• adopted Eureka/Engage NY Math curriculum as a supplement textbook to the adopted “Go Math” and “Glenco” curriculums;
• approved the 2017-18 supplement salary schedule; and,
• heard a recommendation for funds for renovation and expansion projects at Hurricane Field in Flomaton.
